About Gfx Sally

o my name is not Sally...lol.  So why Gfx Sally you ask?  Well because GFX (graphics) looks really cool in sig tags no matter what font is used, because gfx is what this site is all about, and because Wilson Pickett's song "Mustang Sally" got stuck in my head...but don't worry, you'll never hear it played here...lol

bought my first computer about 6 years ago and saw all of these amazing graphics being manipulated and knew I had to learn. At first I bought Photoshop because everyone said it was THE program all professionals used and for the price I figured they had to be right.  I didn't learn to use Photoshop at that time, but I did learn three things...  a) not every professional uses it  b) I wasted a hellofalot of money and c) the learning curve was just way too steep. Then a friend gave me Jasc's Paint Shop Pro 7.04 and for a wannabe semi-talented artist and computer-retard like me it is the perfect program. I learned in three months want I couldn't learn in three years with Photoshop.

hen version 8 came out and when I opened it for the first time I had a sense of dèjà vu.  In my humble opinion version 8 is more of a watered down version of Photoshop and less PSP as I know it. Though the learning curve has risen considerably it is still easier than Photoshop. So with that in mind I always recommend that people find a copy of version 7 and start there. Then when they are comfortable with it move up to version 8. That is what I am doing.

nd now version 9 has come out.   As many of you know, JASC has sold out to Corel Corporation and in my opinion, V9 was thrown-together attempt at getting the software out before the sale was finalized.   IMHO v9 falls short of stability, productivity and reliability that previous versions have offered.  The final product shipped with fewer bells and whistles than was released with v8.  However, Jasc (Corel) now offers them for download on their site.   At the time of this writing (2/2005) there have been two product updates to combat some of the original bugginess.  On the upside, if you are a painter v9 offers an amazing new art media center that allows you to simulate real life techniques.   I haven't delved too deeply into this aspect of it since I'm no painter, but I probably will soon just to see how creative I really am lol.

s for this site I am still learning how to code and it will probably change, but for now I am happy with it. It probably wouldn't have been possible without the help of the great people at HTML FORUMS. If you are learning to code and having problems I highly recommend using their board. I hope you enjoy this site and leave here having learned something.

lease feel free to with any comments you might have (good or bad) concerning this site or my graphics.
