I get many many emails asking me how to do this effect so here it is. The photo I used here is from a wonderful photographer Jen Meyer whose work can also be found at the StockXChang.

Resources

Let's get started

  1. Open the image and add a new layer.
  2. Get the rectangular selection tool and make the selection the size you want.  Give the selection a shadow with settings of your choosing (Effects->3d-Effects->drop shadow).   Add a new raster layer.
  3. Flood fill the selection with black (or a color of your choice).
  4. Now go to Selections->Modify->Contract.   Contract by 1, or a setting to your liking.   Hit the delete key.   Add a new raster layer.
  5. Flood fill with a color of your choice.   Lower the opacity to the layer to your liking.   Select none.
  6. **Optional**Add any decoration you wish.
  7. Add a new layer and add your text.

There you have it, short and sweet.   Merge all and save.   I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and found it easy to follow.   If you have any comments or questions please feel free to .
