This technique is based on a Photoshop tutorial found at davrodigital.co.uk. I do not claim that this is my idea, I just adapted it for use in PSP.
Resources- PSP 8. You can download a demo HERE.
- I like working with large images so I have zipped up the beginning images for you to make downloading this page faster. You can download the zip files HERE(shown at top) or HERE (shown at bottom of tutorial) . The zips contain photographs by Wetclay aka Jim Robinson and Iceneweb, two wonderful photographers whose work can be found at the Stock xhange.
Let's get started
*Please note: If you install this tutorial as a quick guide you may get a script error when trying to view the images, just click "yes" at the prompt and the images will show properly. Don't know how to install quick guides? then check out the tutorial found HERE.- Open the image of your choice. Duplicate it (shift+D)and close the original.
- Add new raster layer
- Activate the rectangular selection tool
and make a selection at the bottom of the image. You decide how much of the leg (foot) you want to step out. Flood fill
with black. Select none. - Lower the opacity low enough to see the layer below. Grab the eraser tool
and carefully erase the black over the leg (foot). Zoom in if you need to. - Set your background color to black and foreground to nil. Go to image->canvas size and add 200 pixels to the width and height as shown

- Add new raster layer and set foreground color to #COCOCO background nil. Grab the pen tool
with the following settings:

While holding the shift key (this creates a straight line) click at each corner of the image refer to finished image. Erase the part of the line that goes over any part of the leg (foot).
- Apply a drop shadow with the following settings:
- Apply another shadow but this time change the vertical to 2 and horizontal to -2, all other settings the same.
- Go to layer->merge->merge all. Then crop to your taste.
And there you have it. You can use photos of people, animals, flowers just as long as there are well defined edges. You can also add a name, poem, just about anything... let your imagination run with it.
I hope you found this tutorial useful and easy to follow. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to .
