I've seen this textured paper sold in craft stores for big bucks in the scrapebook section.   So I thought digital scrappers might be able to use it too, so I came up with my rendition of it.

Let's get started

  1. Open a new image 500 x 500px, white background raster background, 72 res.   Add a new raster layer.
  2. Set your foreground color to #FEE2B3 and your background color to #C48C53.
  3. Get the rectangular selection tool, add mode, feather 0, anti-alias checked, and make a selection longer than it is wide (think paper ).
  4. Flood fill the selection with the foreground color.
  5. While still selected add a new raster layer.
  6. Get the airbrush tool (hardness 100, step 1, density 100, thickness 100, opactity 100, blend normal, rate 5) and go around the edges similar to shown below.
old paper example 1
  1. Give it a gaussian blur of about 16.87 or whatever looks best to you.   Merge this layer down.   You should now have 2 layers.
  2. Get the airbrush change the hardness to 58, density 6, opacity 44 and give the paper shots of the dark color by varying the size of the brush after every few spots.  Select none.   You should now have something similar to this:

  1. **Skip this step if you don't want the torn edges**   Get the lasso tool set to freehand, no feather, anti-alias checked. Zoom in so you can see the edges clearly.   Make a squiggly selection, but don't go to far into the paper then hit the delete key.   Continue this around all 4 edges.

  1. Now go to Effects->Texture Effects->Texture and apply the following settings:

  1. Get the texturizer filter and select canvas, scaling 85%, relief 2, top, and invert UNchecked.

Give the paper a drop shadow if you want, delete the background layer and export it as a tube, or simply merge all layers and save it. And you're done.

HINT: If you want to give text or whatever you put on the paper an aged quality add a new layer and apply your text or whatever. Then use the eraser tool set the hardness to 17, step 22, density 8 and go over the image in spots then lower the opacity of the layer.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and found it easy to follow.   If you have any comments or questions please feel free to .
