  1. Duplicate the layer 7 times.   Your layers palette should look like this:

Now we are going to rotate each layer then move it back into place.   For your convenience I have renamed the layer palette with the direction and the degree that each layer should be rotated (ignore the numbers in parenthesis for now).   Refer to this as I will tell you how to do the first layer then you are on your own .

  1. Click on the layer that is highlighted.   Press Ctrl+R to bring up free rotate, enter 45 in the box and check left.   Make sure "Rotate single layer around canvas center" is checked.   Click OK.   Press M on your keyboard to get the mover tool and move the symbol into place ( all edges touch as before).
  2. Working your way up the layer palette repeat the previous step until all layers are rotated according to the image above.
  3. Once you are finished rotating click on the highlighted layer again.   Press Shift+S to bring up the resize box.   Enter 90 percent and the following settings.

  1. Repeat step 6 working your way up the layer palette and using the numbers in parenthesis as the percentages.
  2. Make sure all layers are visible and save your work as a .pspimage.   Bring up Animation Shop.
  3. If you have worked in AS before you can skip this step. Go to File->Preferences->General program preferences.   Click on the Layered files tab and make sure "keep layers as separate frames" is ticked.   And check Preserve overall layer transparency.
  4. Open up your image (File->Open).   Zoom in 1:5 (If the option is greyed out go to Animation->View animation and it should fix the problem).   Ctrl+A to select all the frames.   Ctrl+C to copy them.
  5. Now click on the last frame (f:8) then Shift+Ctrl+L to paste after current frame.   Now zoom in 1:6.   All of the frames you just pasted should still be selected.   If not, hold the shift key and click on frame 9 (f:9) and 16 (f:16).
  6. Now press Shift+R to reverse the frames you just pasted.

  1. Now click on frame 9, right click and select delete.
  2. Go to Animation and selct Replace Color.   Tick All frames, All Transparent regions and New Color and select a color of your choice.   Click ok.
  3. Save the animation (I use the default settings). And you're done finally!
