This is an easy way to make a rock texture.   You can customize the color to suit your needs.   The color I chose reminds me of Oklahoma red soil.

  1. Open a new image 500px x 500px, white background, 72 res, 16 mil colors.
  2. Set your foreground color to #A55507 and background color to white.   Bring up the Filters Unlimited plugin, click on Render.   Chose Clouds (fore-/background color).   Change cloud type to 135 and gamma to 99 then apply.
  3. Go to Effects->Art media effects->brush strokes and apply the following settings:

  1. Duplicate the background layer.   Apply the Filters Unlimited again.
  2. Set the layer blend mode to multiply.
  3. Colorize (Shift+L) the layer using hue 25 sat 124.
