I could have sworn that Jasc (now Corel) made a smooth stone tube, but when I went looking for it I couldn't find it. So I had to come up with my own version. If anyone knows where I can find the Jasc tube please let me know. In the mean time, you can make this version and learn a little about using the pen tool and the lighten/darken tool.
If you don't want to do the tutorial you can get the stone tube HERE.
Resources- PSP 8 or 9. If you don't already have a copy you might be able to find one on eBay.
Let's get started
*Please note: If you install this tutorial as a quick guide you may get a script error when trying to view the images, just click "yes" at the prompt and the images will show properly. Don't know how to install quick guides? then check out the tutorial found HERE.- Open a new image 500px x 500px, transparent background, 72 res, 16mil colors.
- Add a new raster layer and flood fill
it with a color or pattern of your choice.
Get the Preset shapes tool set as follows:
Set the background color to #A6A2A2 and foreground color to nil (none). Then draw an eclipse.
- Activate the pen tool
then click on any node. Then pull the handles out to form the rock shapes. Repeat for each node. HINT: To make the stone smooth right click on the node then choose the smooth node type as shown below.

- Activate the lighten/darken brush
with the following settings:

Now by varying the size of the brush randomly add dots and lines to make the scratch marks. Refer to the finished image to get the idea.
- Add a dark drop shadow to your taste.
Make more with different shapes if you want and export them as a tube. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and found it easy to follow. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to .
