Let's get started
*Please note: If you install this tutorial as a quick guide you may get a script error when trying to view the images, just click "yes" at the prompt and the images will show properly. Don't know how to install quick guides? then check out the tutorial found HERE.- Open a new image 500px x 500px, white background, 72 res, 16mil colors.
- Drag a guide to 250. To do this first turn on the rulers (Crtl+Alt+r) then click and hold the left mouse button over the left ruler and drag to 250 (watch the status bar).
- Set the background color to black and foreground color to nil (none). Get the preset shapes tool set as follows:
- Place the cursor at x100, y100 (on the status bar). While holding the shift key drag the circle out to x300, y300.
- Then go to Objects->distribute->space evenly horiz. Convert the layer to a raster layer (Layers->convert to raster). Rename this layer white. Duplicate the layer (Layers->duplicate) then rename the new layer to black. Turn visibility off to the black layer. Your layer palette should look like this:
- Now on the white layer Ctrl+A to select all then Ctrl+F to float the selection. Go to Selections->modify->contract and contract the selection by 2.
- Flood fill
with white. Ctrl+D to select none. - Activate the black layer. Then get the lasso tool set to add, point to point, feather 0. Click the cursor on the guide line (x250 on the status bar) over the top of the circle and then again passed the bottom of the circle and to the right of the circle. Double click at the top to set the selection (similar to shown below).

- Ctrl+F to float then Ctrl+Shift+F to defloat then hit the delete key. Select none. Your image should look like this:

- Lower the opacity of the black layer to around 50 to make things easier to see. Get the preset shapes tool with settings as before. Set the cursor to x100, y100, hold the shift key and draw a circle out to x200, y200. Your image should look similar to this:

- Grab the small circle and drag it to x250 y202.

- Duplicate this layer. Ctrl+I to flip this layer. Your image should look similar to this:

- Turn visibility up to 100 on the black layer. Then turn off visibilty to all layers except the top and black layers. Then merge visible (Layers->merge->merge visible).

- Activate the "bottom" layer. Ctrl+A to select all, Ctrl+F to float, Ctrl+Shift+F to defloat. Then delete the "bottom" layer. You should still have a selection.
- Add a new raster layer. Flood fill the selection with white. Ctrl+D to select none. Turn visibility off to the background layer then merge the visible layers.
- Add a new raster layer. Get the circular selection tool and make a selection until you get a 20x20 circle. The image below shows the status bar to accomplish this. (no other numbers matter except the ones with the red arrow).
- Get the mover tool, hold the shift key down using the right mouse button drag the selection to the middle of the guide in the middle of the black. Flood fill with white.
- Ctrl+D to select none. Duplicate the layer then Ctrl+I to flip it. Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F, Ctrl+Shift+F then flood fill with white. Ctrl+D to select none.
