Gingham Background
Gingham seems to be a very popular background for many websites and it's also a staple of a country theme used in scrapebooks. So here my way of making it. I hope you find it useful.
Resources- PSP any version.
Let's get started
*Please note: If you install this tutorial as a quick guide you may get a script error when trying to view the images, just click "yes" at the prompt and the images will show properly. Don't know how to install quick guides? then check out the tutorial found HERE.- Open a new image 10px x 10px, white background. Then zoom in to about 1000%
- Get the rectangular selection tool. Bring up the custom selection dialog box by clicking on this
button in v8 & 9 or double clicking on the selection tool in V7. Set the values as shown below:

- Choose your color scheme then flood fill with a dark color of your choice. I chose #03651A as shown in square 1 below.
- Bring up the custom selection box again and change the values to top 0, left 5, right 10, bottom 5. Then flood fill with a different color. I chose #D08206 as shown in square 2 below.
- Bring up the custom selection box once again and change the values to top 5, left 0, right 5, bottom 10 and flood fill with the same color (#D08206) as shown in square 3 below.
- Bring up the custom selection box once more and change the values to top 5, left 5, right 10, bottom 10 and flood fill with a lighter shade of your first color (mine is #D1FFDA) as shown in square 4 below.
- Now just save your image in your patterns folder and it's ready to use and you're done!
To summarize
- Start with a square image, size depending on how big you want your checks. (the larger checks shown above started as 20x20).
- The selections should be half the image size both vertically and horizontally.
- The first color is the darkest and is the top left selection
- The second and third selections are the same color and are at the top right and lower left.
- The last selection is a lighter shade of your darkest color (or white) and is in the bottom right position.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and found it easy to follow. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to .
